Abstract

Media and information literacy is a social phenomenon whose development is increasing. The purposes for which millions of users use information and the media have diversified over the years, which requires the mastery of certain skills for an optimal use of the multimedia resources of cyberspace. In this sense, education for communication is presented as a paradigm that, from collaborative learning, aims to make subjects independent and capable of self-managing knowledge, based on principles of social justice, equity and collective responsibility. In this work, the general objective was formulated as the design of an edu-communicative strategy aimed at strengthening media and informational competences in elderly people of the Senior Citizen Chair of the University of Havana, in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality. For this purpose, a systematization of the theoretical-methodological assumptions on edu-communicative strategies and media and informational competences was carried out, which made possible a better understanding of the central terms of the research. A characterization of the political, social and cultural conditions of the Plaza de la Revolución municipality that intervene in the full access to opportunities for this age group was carried out. Through a questionnaire and two focus groups, the current state of the media and information competences of this sector of the population was diagnosed. At the same time, the multi-stakeholder participation in the public sphere, transversalized the process of inquiry and conformation of the final proposal
